Walter Meyer had a thing for light, writes his brother Frans in the biography Impossible Skies – Life with my brother, the artist Walter Meyer, which he discusses with Andries Bezuidenhout. Walter was stabbed to death by his wife with a kitchen knife in 2017, but contrary to what his tragic death suggests, he was known for his energy, book collection, political fervour (he refused to do military service), his love for the music of Koos du Plessis and Gert Vlok Nel, and his involvement in the Voëlvry movement. Catharina Scheepers, his former wife, also shares her memories. As a bonus, some of Walter’s original paintings – including a moving self-portrait – will be exhibited at the talk, along with an exclusive series of four prints by Heidi Erdmann.
