The traditional farm novel takes on a fresh new form in P.J.O. Jonker’s debut. The story of a dissident young farmer who inherits a family farm near the Swartberge and changes the farm’s focus to medicinal herbs. Jan-Dawid Olivier easily takes pity on people and animals, but when he decides to take care of an unconscious woman on the farm, he becomes a prisoner of his own decision. Kerneels Breytenbach talks to the author about writing his first book.
