An elderly couple prepares for the arrival of their guests. At 93, the old man will finally deliver his life philosophy to guests from all walks of life, including the president. To accommodate everyone in this lighthouse on a deserted island requires chairs and more chairs. But the guests are invisible, and the old man has hired someone to speak on his behalf. Amid the absurdity the characters confront isolation, suffer communication breakdowns and poignantly reflect on the quest for significance in a seemingly indifferent world. Die stoele won the Kanna award for Best Production and Antoinette Kellerman and Chris van Niekerk the Best Female and Male Actor awards, respectively, at KKNK 2024.
