Lutesong Consort presents a French allegorical mini-opera by Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643-1704). In this hòmage to Louis XIV (self-styled arts patron, warlord and ultimate monarch) “the arts” are the characters: “La Musique”, “La Poesie”, “La Peinture” and “L’Architecture” resolve a dispute between “La Paix” and “La Discord”. Expect tastefully ornamented arias and polished ensemble work by Cape Town’s foremost baroque singers and period instrumentalists.

With With Marina Pienaar, Elsabé Richter (soprano), Vasti Zeeman-Knoesen, Lente Louw (mezzo soprano), Willem Bester (tenor), William Berger (baritone), Keaton Manwaring (bass), Annien Shaw, Ralitza Macheva (baroque violin), Rosamund Ender (viola da gamba), Uwe Grosser (theorbo), Erik Dippenaar (harpsichord)
