In this beautiful book dr. Wayne Muller maps the development of a contemporary South African opera-aesthetic from a unique angle. He analyses the discourse surrounding opera as it emerges in newspaper reviews and opens the conversation around a distinctively South African expression and aesthetic in 21st century opera. The book also looks at the transformative power of opera in a country that bears the marks of a colonial history, yet portrays a rainbow nation on stage. Naudé van der Merwe talks to him.
