The Western Cape is South Africa’s main exporter of fresh fruit. The industry is worth billions of rands and creates tens of thousands of jobs. It is a dynamic and challenging environment where the genetic development of new cultivars unlocks all kinds of opportunities, but also one that is hugely dependent on an efficient port in Cape Town. What needs to be done to make sure that producers remain competitive in the international market and are able to access new markets?
