Set in contemporary Southern Africa, Riel follows an aging Khoekhoe matriarch who wishes to pass on the tradition and heritage of the riel dance to her granddaughter, who has urbanised and no longer practices the cultural customs of her people. This film celebrates the iconic First Nations tradition of the riel.
