Isidlamlilo has as background the political violence between factions of the ANC and the IFP in KwaZulu-Natal in the 1980s and 90s. Through the eyes of an older black woman in search of justice and truth it examines, among other things, how a violent past led to a violent democracy. Creators Neil Coppen and Mpume Mthombeni talk about the play which was recently awarded a Naledi for best production of a play.
