After hundreds of performances countrywide over a period of almost three years, and an unforgettable run at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, Die naaimasjien is staged again. Sitting in her room in the old-age home, Magdaleen cleans every part of her sewing machine. The woman who is buying it, said she will come around to pick it up at three this afternoon. While she carefully cleans her constant companion of the past 55 years, Magdaleen’s thoughts wander to her husband and children. With compassion and humour, she takes viewers back to a time of milk deliveries, stockings with seams, haberdasheries and milk separators. And she reminds us how a mother – like a babushka doll – is inside each one of her children.
