Andrew Buckland is 72. Ek noem dit om twee redes: Eerstens omdat die teks van The Fool\u2019s Guide<\/em> temas aanraak soos mortaliteit en die broosheid van die menslike bestaan, en tweedens omdat die stuk meer as \u2019n indrukwekkende hoeveelheid stamina en inspanning van die speler verg. Dit is \u2019n taak waarin hy slaag sonder om letterlik of figuurlik in sweet uit te slaan. <\/p>

As \u2019n teaterervaring kan The Fool\u2019s Guide <\/em>op twee vlakke waardeer word. Dit is eerstens \u2019n boeiende storie wat op die verhoog vertel en uitgebeeld word. Die resultaat is suksesvol, grotendeels omdat dit Buckland op die verhoog is. Enigiemand wat oor die laaste vier dekades by die Nasionale Kunstefees in Makhanda was, sal weet watter nasionale skat hy is. Dink byvoorbeed aan The Ugly Noo Noo<\/em> wat onlangs weer onder groot lofprysing opgevoer is. <\/p>

Met die knip van \u2019n oog of die krul van \u2019n toon verander Buckland van karakter. Geen dramatiese bewegings nie. Geen rakke vol kostuums wat tussen tonele verwissel moet word nie. En geen lepelvoer vir die gehoor nie. <\/p>

Hierdie is nie tradisionele teater nie. Dit voel meer of jy TV of \u2019n fliek kyk. Die minimalistiese kostuum \u2013 \u2019n swart pak, groen T-hemp en geen skoene nie \u2013 voel gepas. Hiermee word \u2019n skare karakters in die lewe geroep \u2013 van pratende stofsuiers en Beta-bros<\/em> tot demoniese Yorkies. Mense wat reekse soos Transformers <\/em>ken, die fisieke teater van Italiaanse teatermaker Dario Fo geniet, of vertroud is met karakters uit die Manosphere <\/em>soos Andrew Tate en Clavicular, sal ook waardeer hoe baie detail en verwysingx daar in di\u00e9 teks ingewerk is. <\/p>

Die ironie is egter dat \u2019n toneelstuk wat grotendeels oor tegnologiese temas en verwante verwysings handel, op die verhoog geen van hierdie elemente gebruik nie. Alles rus op die skouers van \u2019n akteur en sy liggaam en stem. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Fool\u2019s Guide<\/em> bied ook op \u2019n tweede vlak stof tot nadenke. Waar l\u00ea die grense wanneer \u2019n pa sy seun moet beskerm? Hoe behou ons ons menslikheid in \u2019n w\u00eareld vol mensmasjiene? Wat gebeur as ons doodgaan terwyl ons nog dinge het om aan hierdie kant te doen? En dan is daar die ewigheid self. Behalwe dat Dood \u2019n karakter is wat die kyker ontmoet deur die loop van die storie, laat sy verskyning ook baie vrae onbeantwoord. Wees gerus, dit is nie so diep en donker dat jy die teater met \u2019n swaar gemoed sal verlaat nie. <\/p>

Wat gebeur na ons die tydelike met die ewige verwissel? Is dit werklik finaal? Moet ons bang wees?
