Die Endlersaal was minder as \u2019n tiende vol. O wee. Die Scullery Quintet verdien vol sale, stampvol kroe\u00eb en oorvol jazz klubs. Dit is een van daai veelsydige ensembles wat in enige ruimte luisteraars sal oorrompel.<\/span><\/p>

\u2019n Konsertsaal in Stellenbosch, 11:00 op \u2019n Dinsdagoggend, met crossover jazz op die program, gaan waarskynlik nie dawerende skares lok nie, maar Woordfeesgangers kan maar jammer wees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Waarop het almal wat daai le\u00eb Endler-sitplekke kon vul uitgemis? B\u00e1ie.<\/span><\/p>

Di\u00e9 kwintet staan met van hulle voete in die w\u00eareld van klassieke musiek, en die ander voete, hande en snare het \u2019n stewige greep op die w\u00eareld van jazz, pop en ook, tydens een item, jungle drum & bass.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Die vyfstuk van Johannesburg \u2013 Hana Yim-Wahl (viool), Dieter Hendrick (viool), Tiisetso Mashishi (altviool), Amaeshi Ikechi (kontrabas) en Peter Auret (tromme) \u2013 is almal entoesiastiese musici wat gelukkig hul entoesiasme kan rugsteun met gehalte.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Auret is duidelik die dryfkrag in beheer van die groep. Met drie Samas as klankingenieur verstaan \u2019n mens ook waarom sy dienste as verwerker en tromspeler hoog aangeskryf word. Hy het sewe van die agt stukke wat hulle uitgevoer het, briljant verwerk. Maar die groeplede self is ook nie bang om te improviseer nie. Hul verskeie passievolle jazz-solo\u2019s en pretensielose verhoogpersoonlikhede sorg vir baie plesier.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Die program het verwerkings van Krzysztof Komeda se <\/span>Svantetic<\/span><\/i>, Piazzolla se <\/span>Libertango<\/span><\/i>, die tweede beweging van <\/span>Dvo\u0159\u00e1k<\/span> se \u201cAmerikaanse\u201d strykkwartet en <\/span>Birdland<\/span><\/i> van Joe Zawinul (van die groep Weather Report) ingesluit. Alles verwerk op \u2019n unieke manier wat die instrumentkombinasie tot hulle reg laat kom.<\/span><\/p>

Vivaldi se <\/span>Vier Seisoene<\/span><\/i> is al deur ontelbare gedaanteverwisselings, maar hierdie weergawe van \u201cSomer\u201d het dit, wonderbaarlik, steeds vars laat voel. Yim-Wahl se Nigel Kennedy-esque spel het veral hier uitgestaan.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Maar die hoogtepunt, en vir my die grootste hoendervel-oomblik, was Mashishi se solo tydens \u2019n verwerking van Radiohead se <\/span>Exit Music (for a film).<\/span><\/i> Enigiemand wat dink die altviool is vervelig sou na dese van opinie verander.<\/span><\/p>

Peter Auret het deurgaans die gehoor op \u2019n baie humoristiese wyse toegespreek. \u2019n Lang gepraat tydens musiekkonserte kan soms erg vervelig raak, maar Auret se kwinkslae het tot die ontspanne atmosfeer bygedra.<\/span><\/p>
