Soos wanneer Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon in <em>Angels and Demons<\/em> s\u00ea: \u201cFaith is a gift\u2026 that I have yet to receive.\u201d Oor <em>Spierwit Blues en Hennie Aucamp se dagboeke<\/em> kan ek s\u00ea: \u201cWaardering hiervoor\u2026 is \u2019n geskenk wat ek nog moet ontvang.\u201d\u00a0<\/p><p>Maar dis hoe ver die vergelyking strek. Swak is die bronmateriaal van <em>Spierwit Blues<\/em> beslis nie. Hennie Aucamp is immers een van die beste \u2013 indien nie die heel beste nie \u2013 dagboekskrywers in Afrikaans.<\/p><p>Daar is \u2019n soort sjarme aan Albert de Vos se fassinasie met Hennie Aucamp, veral Aucamp as flaneur \u2013 iemand wat ronddwaal om die samelewing waar te neem. Hoewel dit onwaarskynlik klink dat \u2019n selfverklaarde heteroseksuele man aanklank vind by die homoseksuele esteet, lyk De Vos se interesse en begrip opreg.<\/p><p>Van De Vos se liedere is daar nie veel om te neurie nie. Hy sing (en speel kitaar en mondfluitjie) in digterlik filosofiese trant. Die titellied \u201cSpierwit Blues\u201d verwys byvoorbeeld na hoe wit mense met \u2019n silwer lepel in die mond kan kla. Koos du Plessis is hy egter nie, en ek kan my skaars die aanhanger voorstel wat di\u00e9 soort musiek sal volg en aanskaf.<\/p><p>Die voorlesings uit Aucamp se dagboeke het deurgaans my aandag gehad. Dit het \u2019n mens weer onder die indruk gebring van hoe fyn en omvangryk \u2019n waarnemer Aucamp was. Ek was egter nie besonder be\u00efndruk met Izak de Vries se kwasivertolkte voorlesings nie. Dis miskien \u2019n persoonlike ding, maar dit was myns insiens in die pad van Aucamp se stem as skrywer.<\/p><p>Die groot effek wat di\u00e9 produksie op my gehad het, is die behoefte om weer <em>Gekaapte tyd<\/em> en <em>Allersiele<\/em> uit my boekrakke te gaan grawe.
