The highly talented and versatile students of the Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA) and a few guest artists bring exuberance and moxie to circus life. The production is a dazzling tribute to all things cirque \u2013 juggling, aerial artistry, crazy balancing, dance, lasers, song \u2013 and all come together in a fun family show that includes elements of comedia dell\u2019arte, illusion, clowning, mime, vaudeville, and hints of the dark side of the circus that gave us the freak shows of the late 19th<\/g> century. This production is a bright and sparkling gem with gorgeous costumes, excellent voices, energetic dancers and a cast of talented young people who commit to each moment on the stage with enthusiasm and charm. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

It is difficult to single out standout moments in a show so packed with talent, but a few deserve special mention. The gasp-inducing balancing act involving boards and tubes had half of the audience on the edge of our seats, while the rest had their hands over their eyes \u2013 too tense to watch the flirtation with disaster happening atop a table. Equally captivating was the juggler who tossed batons into the air in ever-changing rhythms and formations with effortless grace that had the audience spellbound. And way above the stage was the aerial performer whose fluid strength and acrobatic fitness made the silk and hoop work seem almost otherworldly. Adding emotional depth to the spectacle, the hauntingly beautiful a cappella rendition of \u201cWhen the Party\u2019s Over\u201d lingered long after the final note faded. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

High praise to the choreographers who infused each dance number with its own distinct tone and texture and gave us a show that remained dynamic and engaging until the last bow.<\/p>

LAMTA productions consistently hit the high notes. With an irresistible blend of talent, skill, passion and artistry their shows are always a joy to watch. This one is no exception. From the opening rendition of \u201cThis is Me\u201d from the The Greatest Showman<\/em> to the closing dance number to Lady Gaga\u2019s \u201cBorn This Way\u201d this is an evening of delight. <\/p>

Go and see it \u2013 you might just find yourself tempted to run away and join the circus.<\/p>
