Two choral works contribute to the celebration of ”Afrikaans 100”. Both are premiéres. De profundis is a multilingual sacred work in which Afrikaans enters into a dialogue with four other languages: Latin, German, isiXhosa and English. The cycle Twaalf Afrikaanse koorliedere is based on poems from Henry Allan Fagan’s collection Soos die windjie wat suis (1949). Both works are composed in a contemporary, yet listener-friendly style and aim to challenge conventional views on Afrikaans choral music.
