With Albert Pretorius, Schalk Joubert
In this one-man play in 21 poems – a selection from poet Danie Marais’ four poetry collections – Albert Pretorius pulls to shreds a terrifyingly ordinary life from failed marriages in the outer reaches of Germany to the privileged mess of middle-class South Africa. A story about parenthood, the search for belonging, and making sense of a past that strangles the present by a white guy who, along with his daughter and a progressive world, wants only one thing for Christmas: “To no longer always have to know how a middle-aged white man feels about everything.”
Ek is nie Danie has, among other accolades, been awarded Woordtrofees and Kanna Awards, and has received six Fiestas for best production, best actor, and production of the year, among others.
