Antjie Krog’s first poetry collection was published in 1970. Siphokazi Jonas debuts 54 years later, in 2024, with Weeping Becomes a River. In this joint reading, these two Woordfees festival poets show us that despite the many things that divide us in our country, there is much that we share, that humanity resonates in all of us and that there are always points of meaningful connection. Siphokazi and Antjie explore the power of words to build bridges, open us to each other’s experiences, and convey the raw force of poetry.
