Since being diagnosed with focal dystonia (a brain disorder that causes involuntary spasms) and Parkinson’s disease, Nina Schumann – one of South Africa’s leading pianists – has committed to shining the spotlight on both her music and her illnesses. In this discussion, Nina shares her experiences as a musician and educator with illnesses that forced her career in a new direction. Screened for the first time in South Africa, this short documentary captures how she, as a Parkinson’s sufferer, prepares for a Rachmaninoff concert (at the Woordfees in 2023); and engages in a conversation about the way forward.

With Nina Schumann (pianist), Gideon Lombard (discussion leader), Jurg Slabbert (director) and Christiaan Boonzaier (producer)
