FEDA-wenner: The Desert Station

The Desert Station is a physical theatre work that asks a simple but urgent question: What does healing look like after remembrance?

Set at a deserted train station, the piece follows a generation waiting for a promised future that never seems to arrive. Drawing on South Africa’s history of resilience, sacrifice, and struggle, the work explores what it means to inherit memory, and how young people navigate the weight of stories they did not live but continue to carry.

The Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Arts is over twenty years old and showcases the very best of High School Drama departments from all over Gauteng celebrating young theatre makers and their original stories. Cutting edge, brave, provocative, challenging; this is the future of theatre!
Over 64 plays from 45 high schools entered FEDA this year. The standard was exceptional. This play was the winner.
