Sonography is an exploration in sound and music of story-telling and questioning. In this production, artists tell stories prompted by instruments, musical idioms and the sound worlds each evoke: uhadi, Khoe sounds, acapella voice and Mississippi blues. Their questions gesture hope: how do we listen anew, with nuance and complexity, in a refusal to reduce sound to commodified global harmony? This collaboration between WOMAD, Peter Gabriel’s Music Foundation, Toyota Stellenbosch Woordfees and the SU Department of Music is a first you don’t want to miss.
