R70 | R100 at the door

Come and discover stories and music that forms part of our past. Voices, in particular women’s voices, that resonate from primary sources, such as personal letters, diaries, newsletters and journals. Enjoy the humour, readings, songs and organ playing that build relationships, and create trust and togetherness across culture, language and time. View the wealth of historical photos, manuscripts and artefacts from the Dutch Reformed Church Archives after each presentation.

Briewe wat stories vertel

According to Dr Lisel Joubert archival research is mostly about what finds you, rather than what you are looking for. The voices captured in personal letters, journals and mission newsletters invite you to hear their stories. Using pioneer missionary Martha Murray’s letters (1890s-1910), Dr Joubert (Faculty of Theology) discusses the principles of “life writing”. Voice artist Cecile Murray-Louw reads from Martha’s letters. View examples of the historical letters and photos after the presentation. Traditional coffee and milk tart for sale.
