The Toyota SU Woordfees will once again take place in the spring, from 7 to 15 October 2023. This decision was taken in consultation with several role players and stakeholders, including sponsors and donors, other arts festivals, artists, festivalgoers, producers, schools, suppliers and the hospitality industry.
“Time constraints make it impossible for us to present a festival in March 2023. It is also less expensive to present the festival in October,” says Saartjie Botha, Director of the Toyota SU Woordfees and WOW Project. “In addition, the overwhelming majority of the parties with whom we consulted, were in favour of a festival in October. The benefits include a more equitable spread of festivals in the Western Cape and more pleasant weather conditions. Accommodation is more available in and around Stellenbosch in October, and there is less pressure on logistics and infrastructure than in March when other big events, such as the Cape Town Cycle Tour (formerly known as The Argus) and the Cape Epic, take place.
“Our experience is that we require at least six months in order to plan a 10-day festival and we are looking forward to a full celebration of the arts next year.”
