Ont- is a solo piece that analyses the coming of age of a young Afrikaner. The narrator stands on the threshold of self-acceptance and liberation but must first take stock of his childhood memories and settle the ghosts of his parents. Through precious and familiar family objects he traces a journey of loss, disillusionment, identity, pain and joy. Ont- was first performed in 2011 and toured locally and internationally for five years, winning four Fiësta Awards, a Woordtrofee and a Gold Standard Bank Ovation Award. In this production the story, character and fictional memories are revisited through a more mature lens.
