THE ART OF HOUGAARD WINTERBACH
For five decades, artist Hougaard Winterbach has created work that blurs the boundaries between so‑called “high art” and pop culture. In his art one sees the influence of the Western artistic tradition, but also markers of comic strips, rock iconography, and more. The book Rites of Passage – The Art of Hougaard Winterbachis part artist biography and part survey, a document that records the artist’s development over 50 years, with images of drawings, jewelry and sculptures. Anton Kannemeyer, a longtime friend of Winterbach, will be in conversation with him about his work and about this publication, which brings together his journey as an artist, his interests, influences, and passions.
