For more than 20 years, arts lovers have marked their diaries in anticipation of an important annual event – the Woordfees in Stellenbosch. Being able to gather with friends and fellow arts lovers under the majestic oak trees has always been a unique part of this festival’s charm, and it is wonderful to be able to do it again after all the virtual gatherings.
Thank you to the organisers, artists, cosponsors and all who have worked so hard behind the scenes for the past two years to keep the arts alive and make the festival possible once again. Congratulations also on the successful and innovative Toyota SU Woordfees TV channel through which we, from the comfort of our living rooms, were able to experience the arts and give wings to our imagination.
However, of one thing we are certain – nothing holds a candle to the sense of anticipation and the intense personal experience of attending a live festival. The old and new music favourites, laugh-out-loud comedy, and all the other forms of entertainment continuously remind us that this festival of words remains one of our favourite events. At this unique festival, not only do we find our thirst for the creative and performing arts slaked, but we are also able to flex our intellectual muscles through conversations and debates that address current issues and challenges, and propose new and creative solutions that embrace the full diversity of this exciting country of ours.
